Scholarship Qualifications and Guidelines

The deadline to apply is July 15th, 2019.
- Applicants must be pursuing a graduate-level course of study and research leading to a career related to air or water quality, waste management, pollution prevention, environmental policy/compliance/law, or sustainability. Applicants must also be attending a full-time graduate school program at a Mississippi university for the 2019-2020 academic year.
- Applicants are encouraged to be student members of the A&WMA or environmental professionals returning to school for graduate study.
- Awards will be made on the basis of academic record and career goals, without consideration of sex, race, national origin, age, or physical disability.
- For the 2019-2020 academic year, the Mississippi Chapter will present two $1,500 scholarship awards. The Chapter's Student Scholarship Awards Committee will review all applications received. Announcement of the scholarship awards will be made by the Committee and awarded at the Southern Section Annual Meeting (September 11-13, 2019, in Callaway Gardens, Georgia).
- In addition to the Mississippi Chapter awards, the A&WMA Southern Section will be awarding scholarships to students attending a graduate school program at a university within the area of the A&WMA Southern Section (Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee) for the 2019-2020 academic year. Mississippi Chapter Scholarship applicants will automatically be added to the pool of applicants for the Southern Section scholarship award.
- Scholarship recipients are encouraged to attend the Southern Section Annual Meeting. Registration fees for the Southern Section Annual Meeting will be waived for scholarship recipients, and limited travel reimbursement may be available. Scholarship recipients will also be awarded a complimentary one-year student level membership to the international Air & Waste Management Association.

There are six sections of the application process:
- Section 1 - Application: This section should contain information regarding your plan of study.
- Section 2 - Statement of Professional Goals: This section should discuss your planned graduate study, relating the significance and relation between (a) coursework and research and (b) professional objective(s).
- Section 3 - Transcripts: This section should contain transcripts for baccalaureate and higher degree(s). Photocopies are acceptable.
- Section 4 - Verification of Graduate School Acceptance: This section should contain acceptable documentation that you will be attending a qualifying graduate program during the 2018-2019 academic year.
- Section 5 - Professional/Non-Professional Work Experience: This section should contain a resume of part-time and full-time work experience including dates of employment, employer, and responsibilities. You may also choose to include information with respect to community participation, professional registration/certification status, and scholarships/fellowships received.
- Section 6 - Recommendations: Letters of recommendation are required for two references. They may be enclosed with the application or sent separately by the reference.
